In a major development, the Government of India has revoked the security clearance of Celebi Airport Services India, a subsidiary of Turkish aviation firm Celebi Aviation Holding, citing national security concerns. The move follows Turkey’s alleged support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, escalating geopolitical tensions.
Celebi has been a key player in aviation ground handling services since 2008, operating at top airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Goa, Cochin, and Kannur. It handles 58,000+ flights and over 540,000 tonnes of cargo annually, employing nearly 7,800 people in India.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) took this step amid reports of Turkish drones and military tech used in attacks against India.
Celebi India has filed a plea in the Delhi High Court, challenging the decision as lacking due justification. The company claims its ownership is controlled by non-Turkish entities, despite its Turkish roots.
Indothai Aviation Services is now taking over ground handling at Mumbai Airport, while Nagpur Airport remains unaffected due to services provided by Goldair Handling (Greece).
This decision highlights India’s firm stance on national security and may influence future foreign partnerships in the aviation sector.
